Volunteer

Volunteers make the Walk for Animals possible. Thank you for considering volunteering at this year's event. As a volunteer you'll be part of the action, get to meet adorable animals, and be an integral part in supporting Animal Humane Society's mission to engage the hearts, hands, and minds of the community to help animals.

All Walk for Animals volunteers also receive a free T-shirt when they check-in for their role that day.

Age requirements

Volunteers for the Walk must be 16 years of age or older.

Volunteer roles

You'll be able to choose your top three role choices on the registration form. Please note that we do our best to assign you to a preferred role, but cannot guarantee that everyone will get one of their top choices. Shift times are subject to change.

Activities and Booths, 7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

If you’re an outgoing social butterfly this may be the role for you! Assist with the great activities and information booths stationed around the grounds for people and their pets, such as handing out free fruit, face painting, and more. This volunteer position is outdoors and requires standing for most of the shift.

Crowd Control (must be 18 years or older), 6:15 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Get a front row seat to all the cute animals attending the Walk! This role is all about safety and ensuring participants are set up for success. Assist both pedestrian and vehicle traffic throughout the day.

Reduce, Reuse, Reward, 7:30-11 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Help us be a zero-waste event! If you’re passionate about the environment and want time to enjoy the Walk, this role is for you! Not only do you get to help the environment, you also get to meet thousands of adorable animals. Volunteers in this position are stationed in pairs (whenever possible) at designated recycle stations to help educate Walkers about the importance of proper waste separation (recycle, compost, trash) and hand out dog treats to those who participate!

Put Me Where You Need Me!

Can’t decide which role to choose? We can help! We will assign you to a role in need of an extra pair of hands. Depending on need, you may be assigned to a role ahead of time or the day of the Walk.

Volunteer opportunities for groups

We’re able to accommodate some small groups to volunteer. Each group member must register individually and put the name of their fellow group members, group lead, or group name in the notes section on the registration form. Groups must have all members registered by Friday, April 5 in order to be considered for placement in a role as a group. We do our best to keep groups together, however, there are only a few roles that can accommodate groups larger than three to four people so group spots fill up very quickly and will likely be full before the deadline. It’s best to get your group registered as soon as possible.
