I am excited to be volunteering at and participating in the Animal Humane Society's Walk for Animals for the fourth time this year!
I have been connected to the Animal Humane Society since 1995, when we adopted our first dog, Chester. From 2008-2013 I worked at the Golden Valley shelter part-time, and now I have been volunteering with the dogs in Coon Rapids since 2015.
AHS does incredible work and I'm proud to be part of it. AHS is an open admissions shelter that does not turn an animal away for any reason. And yet, they have a 95% placement rate, which actually meets the requirement to be called a "no-kill shelter", though typical no-kill shelters have selective admissions.
The Walk for Animals is AHS's largest fundraiser of the year. This year is the first time we will be doing a virtual Walk for Animals which is a huge change, but I hope that the spiritof the Walk is still present and we can (figuratively) come together to make a difference in the lives of animals and the people who love them.
If a special animal has touched your life or if the AHS has made a positive impact on you or your pets, please consider donating to the cause!
